WHY DO WE CHOOSE CHEERFULNESS?
If I jumped on or off the stage like the woman in the photo, I’d fall flat on my face.
Why?
No balance.
No spatial awareness.
Old bones.
Rubbish at jumping.
Lifelong dyspraxia.
But sometimes in the moment and often in the mind I jump for joy.
Why?
As a professional service provider, performer, business owner, campaigner, poet and author (mainly fiction) I’d have made more money and been more successful if people had taken me and my work more seriously.
That’s my fault.
I just love it if my
readers,
audience,
friends,
and family
smile,
sparkle,
and laugh.
You see, many of us choose cheerfulness.
I got the idea from my Mum.
She giggled her way through life.
I had an uncle who supped his way through life.
I don’t recommend my uncle’s way.
I think cheerfulness is easier to choose if you avoid (as much as you can):
screens,
meeting rooms,
stuffiness,
status,
society,
convention,
rules,
processes,
and miserable people
I think cheerfulness is easier to choose if you gain from (as much as you can):
now – not yesterday or tomorrow,
imagination and creation,
reading, observing and listening,
being useful,
nature and open air,
activities, hobbies and exercise,
doing what you love doing and are good at,
and joy from colleagues, friends, family and inexpensive things
At the age of 57, the same age at which my father died, and some of my closest friends didn’t reach. I took a year’s sabbatical on my own in Malta.
Luckily, I’ve been cheerful for 17 years since.
I think it has a lot to do with the choices I made and the people I live and work with.
But you don’t have to take me seriously! ***
